Winterliche Grüße aus Berlin!

As Winter comes to Berlin we are reflecting on a productive semester filled with several new experiences for our Language & Culture students. We went on an overnight trip to Dresden and celebrated a nice Thanksgiving Dinner together.

A vist to Dresden

On November 22 CIEE Language & Culture Students went on an overnight excursion to Dresden where we visited the VW manufactory, climbed up the cupola of the famous "Frauenkirche", visited the museum of military history and had a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner!

In 1945 Dresden was leveled by allied firebombing and later lay in ruins during decades of East German communist rule.  Since reunification much of the city center has been painstakingly rebuilt to its original Baroque splendor. During a city tour guided by a local art historian we learned a lot about the history of the city.

Students walked along the famous "Procession of Princes" image: In 1872-1876 Wilhelm Walter created this image of a horseback procession of the Wettin princes in the Renaissance sgraffito technique. The image was not damaged during World War II because it is made of porcelain and it is the worlds largest porcelain image.

Celebrating Thanksgiving

We also had the opportunity to celebrate a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner together – two hand smoked turkeys! – provided by our restaurant partner in Dresden.
